However, he has now signed a new four-year deal at London Road.
"I've got two years left on my contract so we needed to do a new one," he told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
"Everyone can now stop speculating about where I'm going to go next.
"There's been too much hard work done by everyone to give it all up now.
"There's no point getting in to the Championship and finishing mid-table, I want to get in to the Premiership."
