"I'm getting a lot more of the ball behind the strikers and the team's playing much better," Boyd told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
"I think you can tell that everyone is enjoying playing under him, he just tells us to go and express ourselves."
He added: "I get on really well with the gaffer, he has really helped me a lot over the past few years."

However, the former Stevenage player admitted that the side must work harder to stop a leaky defence, after conceding nine goals in their past three league games.
"We're working hard to be as tight as we can, but it's up to the strikers, and me and the midfielders - not just the defence," Boyd added.
"We've all got to work harder defensively but we do have the firepower to score more."
