"I haven't played a lot of football this season and that's what I want to do," he told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
"I'll have the knee brace on for another three weeks, then I'll see the specialist and hopefully I can start getting everything moving."
The summer signing from Shrewsbury had failed to make a league start for Posh when he suffered the injury in November's 4-1 FA Cup win over Stockport.
The form of front pair Aaron McLean and Craig Mackail-Smith, who have scored 28 goals between them this season, had consistently consigned Hibbert to a place on the bench.
"The two Macs have been scoring a lot of goals so I hadn't had a lot of opportunities, which I understood," he added.
"I was starting to get a bit of a look in and then I get hit by this, so it's not ideal.
"I've got to not rush it, make sure it's healed properly and hopefully come back fitter and stronger."
