Super sub Richard Scott helped Peterborough United welcome their new owners with a final home game victory over Notts County who finished with ten men after Darren Caskey was sent off.
Veteran director Alf Hand received a standing ovation from the London Road crowd when introduced as the new Posh chairman after heading a consortium that exchanged contracts with previous owner Peter Boizot earlier in the day.
But until Scott, in his second spell with the club, chested down a half-cleared corner before unleashing an unstoppable 73rd minute volley, Posh looked like paying the price for a bizarre penalty miss just after the break.
Referee Uriah Rennie had no hesitation in pointing to the spot after Andrew Fotiadis was sent tumbling by Nick Fenton but there was an amazing argument between Posh skipper and penalty specialist Mark Arber and top scorer Andy Clarke over who should take the kick.
In the end Clarke prevailed but County's Saul Deeney went the right way to save comfortably.
Posh boss Barry Fry, whose millionaire Swiss-based businessman friend Colin Hill is part of the Hand consortium, welcomed the changes.
"It's a tremendous relief for the players and fans and it is good to have real football taking charge,†he said.
“But we were awful in the first half and after missing the penalty we struggled until Richard Scott scored the sort of goal he has been threatening for several games.†While Peterborough's future is now secure, County wasted sufficient chances to have won the game and have less than a month to find a new owner and free themselves from administration.
Top marksman Mark Stallard was the worst offender, firing wide after an early mistake by Simon Rea and from an even better opening he slammed his shot straight at Mark Tyler.
Paul Heffernan was also denied by Tyler and County did no better after bringing on Danny Allsopp as a third striker.
Their prospects dipped still further when Caskey was dismissed after collecting yellow cards for shirt tugs on Sagi Burton and Andre Boucaud.
