FA Cup magic was sadly lacking at London Road as Peterborough failed to break down battling Burton Albion and now have to travel for a replay at the lowly Conference outfit's new Pirelli Stadium a week on Wednesday.
Albion will certainly fancy their chances in the second meeting and gave a warning they would be no push over as early as the 12th minute when long-serving midfielder Darren Stride sent in a snap shot that home goalkeeper Mark Tyler did well to block at the expense of a corner.
Posh found opportunities for attacking progress and in an opening half noticeably lacking in any sort of atmosphere, only Peter Gain threatened at the end of a right wing break started by Sagi Burton and, even then, the shot lacked any real bite.
Aaron Webster was repeatedly Posh's stumbling block, with the tall defender's timing and positional play impressive while skipper Stride was always ready to drop back and help out in defence.
A half time blast from manager Mark Wright, an FA Cup winning skipper with Liverpool in 1992, produced a brighter Posh opening to the second half and teenager Ryan Semple burst forward but was forced wide by the advancing Saul Deeney.
With Burton understandably becoming more defensivley minded as the minutes ticked away, Posh looked to last season's top scorer Calum Willock to pull something out of the fire, but the former Fulham striker, who missed the first three months of the campaign through injury, failed to outwit the experienced Deeney.
Posh had a chance late on when veteran Darren Tinson gave away a free kick on the edge of the penalty area, but the Albion wall stood firm and Carden's shot was deflected for a corner that the non-leaguers also cleared effectively.
