Veteran Mark Robins grabbed his seventh in ten games as Wednesday earned their first home win in four months to beat Peterborough 2-0.
Posh squandered two late chances and were down to ten men in the dying minutes when Steve Jenkins was sent off for pulling back Adam Proudlock, who scored the second in injury time.
Robins, a December signing from neighbours Rotherham, slotted home after good work from Proudlock. Then, the former Wolves front man raced clear at the end to convert Derek Geary's through ball.
It gave Wednesday their first home win since 1 October and condemned Barry Fry's relegation-threatened side to their sixth straight away defeat.
Robins was twice just a fraction away from giving Wednesday an early lead. First he was only a boot size away from meeting Craig Armstrong's cross shot in the 17th minute and then, four minutes later, he collided with keeper Mark Tyler when trying to get on the end of Paul Smith's header across goal.
Woodhouse had Boro's first meaningful attempt on goal when he stung the hands of David Lucas with a 25-yard thunderbolt in the 51st minute.
Wednesday broke the deadlock in the 55th minute when Proudlock and Robins, playing only their second game as a partnership, combined.
Dean Smith played a low ball through from just inside the Peterborough half, Proudlock's dummy took defender Jenkins and Mark Arber out of the game and Robins scored.
Arber headed at Lucas at 77 minutes before substitute Andy Clarke volleyed Peterborough's best chance over the bar.
He then headed straight at Lucas as Posh upped the pressure.
But they shot themselves in the foot on 87 minutes when Jenkins was sent off for a professional foul on Proudlock.
Proudlock had the last laugh with his 92nd minute last strike.
