Peterborough defender Steve Jenkins scored his first goal for the club to earn his side their first away win for the season.
The former Welsh international, who won 16 caps, was only making the second start of the season for Posh.
The former Huddersfield defender gave manager Barry Fry food for fought with a man-of-the- match performance.
Jenkins scored the only goal 11 minutes before half time following Andy Legg's corner.
His corner eluded everyone in the box apart from defender Craig Ireland who headed across goal for Jenkins to stab home from six yards.
The home side poured forward in search of an equaliser after the break but Lady Luck was not on their side.
In the 48th minute Mark Yeates saw his stinging 20-yard shot flicked wide of the left-hand post.
And seconds later striker Sam Parkin saw his close-range volley come crashing back off the post after good work by strike partner Darius Henderson.
Henderson almost scored his fifth goal for the club on the hour following Sam Igoe's free-kick.
The former Reading hit-man was unmarked at the far post but his downward header was tipped on to the bar by goalkeeper Mark Tyler.
With the home side going all out on to the attack the visitors nearly broke away for a second gaol with Jenkins again involved.
Legg's left-wing cross found the right-back unmarked at the far post and his goalbound header was somehow kept out by Rhys Evans.
Igoe again showed flashes of brilliance in the 73rd minute with a 25-yard shot. The ball looked destined for the top corner only for Tyler to turn it around the post.
Henderson and Parkin both went close late on but both failed to convert simple chances as the away side held on to the three points.
