Wigan 2 Peterborough 2

Wigan threw away two valuable home points and their place at the top of the Second Division, with a careless display against lowly Peterborough at the JJB Stadium.

After seemingly coasting to victory with a two goal lead, the home side were hit by an attack of the jitters and allowed a Peterborough side, that seemed dead and buried, to claw their way back into the contest.

It seemed plain sailing for the home side when an Andy Liddell penalty in the first half and a close-range Nathan Ellington strike two minutes after the break put them two goals to the good, but the never-say-die visitors hit back with a vengeance.

Adam Newton pulled a goal back for Posh after 63 minutes when he rounded Wigan keeper John Filan to slide the ball home. And worse was to follow 12 minutes later when Newton set up Andy Clarke to score with a close-range effort.

Only a fine save from Filan prevented Perterborough's comeback being even more spectacular, while at the other end Ellington wasted a glorious last minute opportunity to spare Wigan's blushes.
